And to find someone willing to attempt to figure this out hasn't been very successful! I went to 2 hospitals today, walked out of deaconess and went to St Vincent. No answers there either. They say let's see a neurologist (who knows when they can see me) yesterday my tongue began to spasm and it hasn't quit.

Today my whole body has been convulsing all day! They sent me home!! I'm posting 2 videos that are quite embarrassing if you know me but I want you to see what's happening to me!

"I believe that, ethically, everyone should take the vaccine," he said, according to a transcript released in advance of the airing of the interview.

The Pope added that he would be taking the vaccine himself and that the Vatican will start administering it to its citizens "next week," remarking that "it must be done."

According to the transcript as quoted in The New York Times, Pope Francis suggests that, "it's an ethical choice, because you are playing with health, life, but you are also playing with the lives of others."

"I don't understand why some say, ‘No. Vaccines are dangerous,'" the Pope is quoted as saying. "If it is presented by doctors as a thing that can go well, that has no special dangers, why not take it? There is a suicidal denial that I wouldn't know how to explain."

 

The Pope's statement leads to many questions. Does he think people who had the virus should still get the vaccine? Should pregnant mothers take it even the U.K. government has told them not to do so? How about people with allergies that conflict with vaccines whom the FDA and other agencies have said should not take the vaccine? This a rushed vaccine with way too little testing, by all accounts, and yet we are to believe implicitly in its safety and efficacy?

But there is also a moral side to the Pope's reported statements. In a paper released on December 12, 2020, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, along with co-signers Cardinal Janis Pujats, Bishop Joseph Strickland, and Archbishops Tomash Peta and Jan Pawel Lenga, expressed their strong conviction that any use of a vaccine tainted with the "unspeakable crime" of abortion, under any circumstances, "cannot be acceptable for Catholics."

These prelates cite the teaching of St. John Paul II, affirming the duty of every Catholic and person of goodwill to defend "the most basic and fundamental right" to life "with maximum determination." To make use of vaccines that are "made from the cells of murdered unborn children contradicts [this] ‘maximum determination' to defend unborn life," their statement read.

It started with stamps. My interest in the ‘German Democratic Republic' began when a very nice lady called Frieda, who lived on our road when I was a child, started to give me her old East German stamps for my collection. She was from the DDR, and went every year to visit her elderly mother there. She told my mother she was followed by the secret police when she went back. My apolitical fascination with this rather mysterious ‘Behind the Iron Curtain' country grew. I had a pen friend who lived in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz), and we exchanged football pennants and stickers. In September 1989, I was finally able to visit. It was some experience.

Without wishing to brush over or downplay in any way the negatives, which I will go into, I found the country was a lot less grim than popularly portrayed. Perhaps that was partly due to the gloriously sunny weather. But it soon became clear to me that, despite living in a ‘dictatorship', people could still enjoy happy, meaningful lives. I remember packed bars and restaurants (including one self-service cafeteria that was open all night at Erfurt station, where my friend and I spent our first night on wooden benches).

It's a sobering thought that things I could do in East Germany in 1989 I cannot do in the locked-down Britain of today. Pubs, restaurants, and nightclubs are shut, by Order of the State. Ditto theatres and other places of public entertainment. Football matches are played ‘behind closed doors'. Earlier this week, Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi appealed for people to stop and not chat to friends they bump into outside, and also told people not to sit on park benches! "Don't go out and sit or have that opportunity of social interaction," he said. Again, this is worse than East Germany.  You could always meet your friends there, and make new ones too.

In less than 12 months, Britain has been transformed from a relatively free country into an authoritarian police state where physical social interaction is strongly discouraged, if not illegal. Last week, we saw a shocking video of police breaking into a home in Scotland after a ‘tip-off' that there were ‘too many people' there.
